WILD WEATHER: HOW FIELDTURF TECHNOLOGY ALLOWED EASTS RUGBY CLUB TO REMAIN OPEN

Woollahra Oval resides in Rose Bay, Sydney, host to Easts Rugby Club, who compete in the NSW Rugby Shute Shield. In 2018, Turf One worked with FieldTurf to install a FIFA Quality and World Rugby certified system. As provided in our article last year on this facility, CEO Dominic Remond, and professional rugby coach Mark Bakewell provided testimonials on the quality and innovation present for Woollahra Oval. Over recent weeks, extreme weather conditions and events has put FieldTurf’s systems to the test. Woollahra Oval was the only sports field remained open during the two weeks of high density rain. There was no flooding, and training and games went ahead as planned.

“The players love it, there are less injuries, no dangerous holes, and a safe grip without slipping. Over the past three weeks, Sydney received over 800mm of rainfall across 16 days. During this time, the field has functioned perfectly, there were no puddles, flooding, or damage. It was like brand new. All sports continued uninterrupted, as Woollahra Oval was the only field in Sydney that stayed open. FieldTurf’s cork infill drains beautifully, as fellow comments suggested more FieldTurf fields be built in the face of such events as the past two weeks”.

– Dominic Remond, Easts Rugby Club General Manager

FieldTurf PureFill was the choice of infill at Easts Rugby. Harvested from cork oak trees every nine years, this natural infill provides a multitude of advantages to facility mangers and players alike. Cooler surfaces and sustainable measures bring FieldTurf’s ‘Sustain the Game’ into tangible effect. Over the course of recent events, Easts Rugby General Manager Dominic Remond reinforced the facilities capabilities in the face of harsh weather conditions.
