FIELDTURF AT KILMARNOCK F.C: SYNTHETIC TURF SUCCESS IN SCOTLAND
In 2014, Kilmarnock FC decided to join FieldTurf’s surfacing technology evolution by switching from natural grass to synthetic turf. This system was replaced with a new FieldTurf system in 2019.
Kilmarnock FC is based at Rugby Park, only a 30-minute drive south of Glasgow. The club has followed on from pioneers such as Falkirk FC and Forfar Athletic FC in Scotland to transition over to artificial turf, from natural.
FieldTurf worked with Allsports Maintenance & Construction Ltd as the installers of the project. Allsports installed Kilmarnock’s previous system, utilising previous experience and expertise to deliver the final FieldTurf system.
Kilmarnock has a history of success in the Scottish Premier League, winning the League Title and League Cup once each. FieldTurf is proud to be associated with Kilmarnock as a club with a deeply-embedded history within the game of Football, while aligning with the shift from natural to artificial grass throughout the British Isles.
Rugby Park uses FieldTurf’s Vertex Core, the world’s first super fibre. With over 20 years of innovation and expertise, CORE brought the first multi-layer dual-polymer. CORE is designed to a more realistic, textured, grass-like shape with optimal durability and resilience. Great for the environment, and great for the players, it is a win-win solution. Not only was there excitement around the theory of CORE, it’s practical application is backed by the highest ever performance score handed out by Labsosport, an Index Score of 90. This testing was conducted at Penn State University’s Research Centre. Kilmarnock joined FC Barcelona, Everton, and Ajax is using FieldTurf CORE technology.
Kilmarnock FC utilised a recent FieldTurf innovation, FieldTurf Genius, powered by Intelligent Play. FieldTurf Genius allows you to remain connected with your field by providing the missing link: on-the-go surface usage statistics. It is designed to maximise the longevity, playability, and safety of a sports field, where facility owners can track maintenance, plan more efficiently, and monitor usage.
This has changed the game for facility owners. The former Chairman of Kilmarnock FC had this to say:
“We are absolutely delighted with the new FieldTurf Vertex pitch at Rugby Park, and very pleased to have made the switch from natural grass to synthetic turf… Our players and coaches are very pleased with the look and feel of the surface and we would have no hesitation in recommending FieldTurf.”
